The night before we were hanging out with our good friends Courtney and Josh at Courtney's parents' house playing Nintendo Wii (sooooo fun, by the way!). Courtney and I had just finished playing Wii tennis and it was the boys' turn to play so we were sitting on the couch. I found myself with the urge to pee 3 different times in a span of about 5 minutes... which wasn't too far fetched considering I was 37 1/2 weeks pregnant... but something was a little different this time. Drew finished his game and we decided to leave and I informed Drew as we were walking to the car that something was up... I had a slight feeling my water might be breaking... but I wasn't sure. When we got home I decided to take a shower (I mean if it wasn't my water breaking... then ewe... my bladder was leaking!) After about an hour we decided to call Labor and Delivery at the hospital to see what they said and they told me to come in right away. Still not convinced that this was the real deal... we drove to the hospital with our bags... but left them in the car... we had a feeling we'd be turning right back around and heading home... after all... I wasn't having contractions. We got to the hospital around 1:15 a.m. and as we were walking from the parking lot I had my first contraction... and then we got into the room and the nurse gave me a gown to change in to and I had another... and another. She confirmed my water had indeed broken, and within 30 minutes my contractions were a minute to a minute and a half apart. I was only dilated to 1 1/2 cm and I had to be at 3 cm before I could get the IV. The contractions kept coming... and coming... and coming... and once I got the IV I had to get a whole bag of IV fluid before they would give me the epidural. OUCH! After suffering through very intense back labor for a few hours I got the epidural at 5:30 a.m. It was THE BEST THING ever! I told the anesthesiologist he was my new best friend and we were on our way to an exciting morning! I dilated pretty quickly and was at 10 cm by 7:45 or so. The doctor arrived and I started pushing around 8:30 and an hour later our precious baby boy, Pierson, arrived at 9:30 on the dot! My sister says that he definitely does not take after his mother... as he was punctual in his arrival... however I think he takes after me... He was should have come at 9 and was casually 30 minutes late :-) He was born weighing 8 lbs 4 oz and was 21 1/2 inches long (I can't imagine how big he would have been had he not been 2 1/2 weeks early!!) The poor little guy had some fluid on his lungs and they decided he needed some extra attention and X-rays and after about a minute of holding him they swept him off to the nursery. After HOURS of waiting and waiting they finally brought our little man to the room at 3 that afternoon and he's captured our love and attention ever since! We had lots of fun visitors in the hospital and then were released to come home on Tuesday the 15th.
Welcome to the world Pierson Andrew - January 13th, 2008!
